I am going to be free in Israel from Sept 17 to Nov 22. I want to spend 6-7 weeks hiking the Israel Trail from North to South and also have an opportunity to volunteer with picking olives on a kibbutz in November.

I hate the heat, but maybe the 2nd half of September is not so bad?

Will it be feasible to make it from the North to Tel Aviv in time for Yom Kippur (i.e., in 13 hiking days)? The normal plan would be about 17 days...so that may be a bit rushed. Is it kosher to stop walking and bus in and then go back to the stopping place and continue walking from there?

Which of these plans would you choose?

Plan A:
-Start the hike on Sept 17
-Aim to finish in early November and volunteer for the rest of the time (2-3 weeks)

Advantages:
-There will probably be plenty of hikers at this time since it's during the holidays
-Chance to volunteer afterwards

Disadvantages:
-Heat in September
-Holidays will be on the trail

Plan B:
-Relax in Israel until after Yom Kippur and start the hike in early October until mid November

Advantages:
-Less heat issues
-Can relax during the holidays

Disadvantages:
-No chance to volunteer on the kibbutz (olive season is only around November)
