I am israel for passover and my goal is to get from oron factory to mitzpe ramon.  However, i now think it is best for me to do this in shorter day trips.  question:  if i start at oron factory, how far can i hike south and still get off the trail on that same day?  I understand that i will need to double back another day to regain the trail, but as long as i am making some progress each day it will still be worth it.  thanks, paul

Good to have you back on the INT

The day from Oron to Mador night camp (day 34) is the most difficult one on the INT. If you are not in a very good shape,
follow your timing and if you have any doubts of completing the day before sunset you should
go down from Mt. Carbolet at km 7.6 of day 34. Arrange for pickup at the bottom of Mt. Carbolet.
Rejoin the INT at the same spot the following day.
Idea to consider: Why don't you start with day 35 it is a relatively easy one. I'd keep the 18 km from
Oron to Mador for the last day of this trip when you are in better shape.

thank you.  can you give me a little more detail.
1) if i do leave the trail and hike to the base of har karbolet, is this a place where i can leave a car, or does one need a 4x4?
2)how far off the trail will i have hiked (understanding that i will need to hike back to the trail from the same place on another day)?
3) about how long should the whole hike take that day?

thanks, paul

To Oron you get by a regular car and leave it there. After Oron 4X4 only.

Provided a 4x4 picks you up it is ~2-3 km.

3) about how long should the whole hike take that day?

Depends on how fit you are.

thanks, paul

If you are not fit to complete the Karbolet in one day then you are not fit to get back to Oron where a
regular car can pick you up. It is +14 km and a total of 21-22 km.  4X4 is your only solution.
