Hello, we are a German hiking group and want in September 2014 at the Israel National Trail hike. We want to just run from Ben Gurion Airport to the north.
But for my Trangia stove I need methylated spirit. I know the Trangia is also sold in Israel. Is there to buy methylated spirits and if so where?

Best regards from Dresden - Germany

I don't know where to buy methylated spirits but regular alcohol can be found in some camping and
sporting goods stores: La-Metayel and Rikoshet.

I suggest to buy a small gas stove - butane is the most common here - and you will have no problems in
buying replacement canisters in camping goods stores or at gas stations.

I'll elaborate a bit on what Yankale said:
First, you could get denatured Alcohol in some construction shops. It would usually be 91% Isoprophyl alcohol, which I don't like since it leaves residue and is toxic.
It's very hard to find Ethyl alcohol; You could find it in Lametayel and Rikoshet but it's expensive.
In virtually every supermarket you could get Alcohol 95 or 96% ("Drinking Alcohol") which is clean, doesn't leave residue and isn't toxic - but due to a new tax scheme, it's extremely expensive (something like 100 NIS per litre - about 22 Euro in today's prices.
Therefore, the easiest and cheapest solution, as Yankale said, would be to use single-use 190g gas canister. Only if you have a contact in Israel, who can buy alcohol from medical stores (there it's much cheaper) I would consider using alcohol for the trip.

karesuando-dd, I have an old Bleuet camping stove, and although I can no longer buy butane cartridges here in the States, they are available all over Israel.  You can't beat a small stove and canister for convenience.  I'm sure you can pick up a stove in Germany that will be compatible with the canisters.  [/img]

Thanks for the quick replies. Ok so better with gas, for the Trangia camping cooker there is also a gas insert. In addition I have found a nice report on the Internet.

For the Trangia I need according to a canister with screw cap. So far I have only one piercing as shown above canister found. Is there only this variant to pierce.
