Quick question if you don't mind.  Am planning to do first section (tel Dan to tel hai) with little kids and websites say it is approximately 12 km long and easy terrain. In theory that should take about 3-4 hours.

Howerer couple of websites say it takes 6 hours which suggests it is pretty heavy going terrain.

Do you have any insight into this? Any sense if ok to do with little kids?

To be exact the distance is 13 km. The terrain is not a problem, but for an average hiker it takes ~6 hours
at 2.5 km/hr incdluding brakes. With young kids I suggest that you hike only the first half of the day ~7 km. You will cross few creeks
on your way which is always fun for kids.
How old they are? If they can hike for 6-7 hours the full distance is doable. There are several points along this section
that can be accessed by car, so you can plan on hiking with the kids 9-10 km or make a desicion as you hike.

Does anyone know how much water (and how deep it is) there is on this section of the trail? Is there an option to walk along side the trail if you do not want to go in the water?

The water is as deep as you see. When it rains or after snow melt down on Mt. Hermon, the water is deeper.

The upper picture: Take off your hiking shoes and cross the water. The lower picture: Can be bypassed. Check here

Both pictures were taken in March.
