If I am unable to find a hiking partner starting from Eilat in late February or early March, how serious is this? Will there be a lot of other people on the trail at that time such that it will possible to informally link up with somebody, at least thru the Negev? Thanks! Rockman.

Hiking solo is great and there are no issues with that. At this time of the year you will easily find partners as you hike.

I hiked the whole trail last year without a partner. Did this mean I walked alone the whole way? No, not at all. I met a lot of people on the trail and hiked often with them for a day of two (a lot of them did only a section). I also met other hikers who I walked with for longer periods.
But there were also days I hike in de dessert without seeing anyone else the whole day, often you would meet other people at the night camps, but I had moments I was on my own for like 1.5 day. You have to be prepared for this. Make sure you (and your gear) are in good condition and know well what you are doing.

Hi Yankel

I have done part of the shvil already.
I want to travel from Kiryat Shemona going south for a few days.
(I know its cold, but it was not a problem for me in previous years)

As of this time I do not have a partner, do you think that security will be a problem. I have traveled alone on the shvil before, but things always can change.

Thanks for your help.

As you know cold in Israel is not too cold. Temps are in the teens to low 20s  (C not F)

No security issues and no problem with solo hiking. Enjoy the hike
