S to N Feb 16 without caching?

I'm starting to hike the whole trail on Feb 16; shouldn't be too hot.  Has anyone actually done it without caching water/food? (The book talks about the possibility but I'd like to figure out weight etc. and see how realistic it is for someone in decent shape. Age 51. Enough info there?)
:-)
Thanks -

I've done it once without caching. It's possible but hard. You either have to carry a significant amount of water (significant in Israeli terms, that is - expect 3-4 litres of water a day in the north, and 4-6 litres a day in the south; If you start from the north, you'll have pretty good estimate of your water consumption by the time you get to the south), or you'll have to move out of the trail frequently for re-fill, and in the south you'll have to rely on water purification - and as we're having a very dry winter now, I can't say how many water holes would actually hold water.

Hikers have done it. Only in 4 places in the desert you will have to carry water for two days - 10 liters min.
The heavy load goes down by noon time of the first day. The max. weight at the beginning
of the first day should not be more than 20 kg. Please download this file

Having said that, I'd go for a water caching trip which is part of the fun, or paying for private water caches.
They are not too expensive.

Thanks so much

Aryeh, the first link seems to be dead, but I meant this one anyway:

Thanks Richard - I've read the general description and wanted to hear if anyone has actually done it. Thanks all for your help. I'm going to combine some caching with some schlepping and paid delivery (or by friends) as necessary.
Thanks again!

Aryeh, here's a new service:

I might try them in March.  If you try them, please let me know how it goes.

Definitley doable w/o water caching. Bare in mind that the info. in the link above was written by a 21 years old very fit hiker. 3-4 liters a day is an underestimate. 5 liters/day is the minimum in the desert (for drinking), even in February.

hiking in negev with out cache
